# Frequently asked questions

## What exactly do you check?

Twenty-two checks across five categories: Discoverability (robots.txt, sitemap, Link headers, DNS-AID), Content (markdown negotiation), Bot Access Control (AI bot rules, Content Signals, Web Bot Auth), API, Auth, MCP & Skill Discovery (API Catalog, OAuth discovery, OAuth Protected Resource, Auth.md, MCP Server Card, A2A Agent Card, Agent Skills, WebMCP, ARD) and Commerce (x402, MPP, UCP, ACP, AP2).

## What is the quickest way to raise my level?

Publish a valid robots.txt with a sitemap reference, then add Content-Signal and explicit AI crawler groups. That is Level 2. Adding markdown negotiation gets you to Level 3, and one discovery document (an MCP Server Card, an Agent Skills index or an API Catalog) takes you to Level 4.

## Are the commerce checks required?

No. They are scored only when the scan finds e-commerce signals on the site. A blog or a documentation site can reach Level 5 with all five commerce checks untested.

## Why is a check sometimes "not applicable"?

Publishing discovery documents for services you do not run is worse than publishing nothing, because it sends agents to endpoints that 404. Checks that describe infrastructure you do not have are reported as notes and excluded from the score.

## Do you store the URLs I scan?

The scan runs on demand and the result is returned to your browser. We do not build a database of scanned sites. Every request the scanner made is shown back to you as evidence under each check.

## Is this the same as Cloudflare's scanner?

It is an independent implementation of the same emerging standards, built to be extended: the check registry, the level ladder and the fix prompts all live in this repository. It is not affiliated with Cloudflare.

## Can an agent use this tool directly?

Yes. POST /api/scan returns JSON, ?format=agent returns markdown sized for a model, and this site runs an MCP server at /mcp with a scan_site tool.
